Man pinned, injured by cut tree

A contractor was seriously injured after a derecho-damaged tree fell on him while he was trying to remove it on December 11, 2020, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The 24-year-old man was found pinned underneath the tree, which had been damaged from the August 10 derecho. While cutting down the tree, it started to rotate and fell toward him.

Firefighters began emergency medical care, and once the tree was removed, the victim was transported to a local hospital, according to a KWWL Television report.

A climber and foreman for a line-clearance company was killed on the job on June 2, 2020, in Maryland. The victim was Donald E. “DJ” Walker, Jr., 26, of Lonaconing, Maryland.
