Climber found dead in tree

A tree trimmer was found unresponsive and hanging from his harness in a tree April 9, 2022, in Los Angeles, California.

Police found David Cerigioni, 70, hanging upside down about 50 feet in the air.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach Cerigioni and get him down, but unfortunately, he had passed away.

Cerigioni was apparently trimming a tree around utility cables, including a power line, but it was unclear if he or one of his tools came in contact with the power line.

There was a slight trauma to his lower left leg, according to first responders.

Investigators were waiting for an autopsy to determine exactly how he had died.

Cerigioni’s daughter, Heather, said her father had worked in the field for 50 years.

His daughter said Cerigioni was an independent contractor who wasn’t working full time, but had been contacted by a local tree service that brought him in as an extra tree trimmer for the day to help fill out a crew.

She said Cerigioni had several loyal clients – one of which was the former Van Halen Estate, where he was working at the time of the accident, according to a CBS Studio City Broadcast Center report.
